ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. – In the school’s final basketball seasons, Alleghany High School had five Mountaineers be named to the All-Three Rivers District boys’ and girls’ teams.
After helping lead the Mountaineers boys basketball team to an 11-13 season, Chris Harden and Xzavier Hayslett were selected as members of the All-TRD second team. Meanwhile, Harden was named to the All-Regional Class 2, Region C second team. Harden led the team in scoring with 10.6 ppg (points per game), while Hayslett was second with 10.5 ppg.
The Lady Mountaineers had three selections. Macyn Cash was the only Mountaineer basketball player to be named to the first team All-TRD. Kendell Keene and Bryce Leitch were selected to the All-TRD second team. Cash, who led the team in scoring with 13.3 ppg, was also selected to the All-Region first team, while Keene was selected to the ball-TRD second team. Keene averaged 11.7 ppg, while Leitch scored 6.7 ppg.
The TRD boys’ basketball Player of the Year (POY) honors went to Radford’s Elijah Kelly, while his coach Rick Cormany and Floyd County’s Brian Hartman shared the Coach of the Year (COY) award.
Carroll County’s Alyssa Ervin was named the girls’ TRD POY, while her coach Marc Motley was the district COY.
Carroll County and Floyd County had the most overall members on the boys’ and girls’ All-TRD teams with eight each.
