LOW MOOR, VA – The Alleghany Mountaineers (3-0) remained unbeaten following a 15-1 victory over the Riverheads Gladiators this past Friday.

The Mountaineers were backed by Hunter DePriest (W/2-for-3) who picked up the win after giving up one run on three hits, while striking out five in five innings pitched. DePriest also provided two RBI’s at the plate.

Chris Harden (3-for-3) led all hitters with a three-hit performance to go along with a game-high three RBI’s. Meanwhile, Eli Weese (1-for-3) and Wyatt Griffith (1-for-1) also had two RBI’s each.

It was just days prior; the Gladiators had beaten the Covington Cougars by the same score. In the loss to the Mountaineers on Friday, the Gladiators were held to just three hits. Logan Austin (0-for-2) provided the teams only RBI after he walked with the bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning.

Following a scoreless first inning, the Mountaineers broke the game open with an eight-run second inning. DePriest got the scoring started as he scored on a wild pitch.

After putting a few more runs on the scoreboard, Griffith ripped a two-run double to left field to help put the Mountaineers ahead 6-0. The Mountaineers would add two more runs in the second to take an 8-0 lead.

With a sizable lead entering the bottom of the third inning, the Mountaineers struck once again big with a seven-run inning. The inning was highlighted by a bases-clearing three-run double by Harden who put the team ahead 15-0.

The Mountaineers look to remain unbeaten on Wednesday when they are on the road visiting the Rockbridge County Wildcats at 5:00 p.m.
