BUENA VISTA — A one-day “EPA 608 Certification” class designed for air conditioning and refrigeration technicians will be held on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Rockbridge Regional Center in Buena Vista.
The instructor is Floyd Wood.
Section 608 of the Federal Clean Air Act requires that all persons who maintain, service, repair or dispose of appliances that contain regulated substances be certified in proper refrigerant handling techniques.
Participants will attend a four-hour course and then take the EPA 608 certification exam; upon successful competition of the exam, participants will be certified as Universal Technicians.
Class size is limited to 12; participants should ask for the EPA Certification Exam Prep Manual when registering.
The tuition fee is $160, but the class is free for any currently registered apprentices in a formal U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) or DOLI (Department of Labor and Industry) apprenticeship program. Tuition fees will be covered by a grant through the Expanding Community College Apprenticeships (ECCA) initiative, in which DSLCC is participating. The ECCA is led by the American Association of Community Colleges, with funding from the DOL to increase the number of apprenticeship programs and services throughout the country.
Apprentices should register through DSLCC Apprenticeship Coordinator David Shofstahl at (540) 863-2920 or email dshofstahl@dslcc. edu.
The DSLCC Rockbridge Center is located at 35 Vista Links Drive, Buena Vista.
