LOW MOOR (VR) — Area fourth graders recently enjoyed an opportunity to learn more about Safety Around Water.
Through grants from the YMCA of the USA and the Community Foundation of Rockbridge, Bath & Alleghany, Alleghany Highlands Public Schools students enjoyed a little time in the classroom and some more fun time in the pool learning to swim or advance their swimming abilities.
“We are excited by the opportunity to help our students grow in lifelong fitness and in water safety through the swimming lessons,” said Kim Halterman, superintendent of Alleghany Highlands Public Schools. “We’re truly grateful for the YMCA’s presence in our community.”
The YMCA provided the swim instructors, lifeguards and the facilities.
“Safety Around Water classes had been put on hold during the COVID pandemic, but the YMCA is extremely happy to again offer these valuable lessons to our area students,” said Jennifer Unroe, Alleghany Highlands YMCA CEO. “We have enjoyed our partnership over the years with our schools, and we look forward to continuing this partnership in the future.”
Since its inception, the Alleghany Highlands YMCA has provided a variety of youth and family programs and expanded memberships and services into all of the Alleghany Highlands communities. For more information on aquatics programs offered by the Alleghany Highlands YMCA, call (540) 962-9622.
