BLACKSBURG, Va. (VR) – The Virginia State Police, Bureau of Criminal Investigation (Salem Division) at the request of Blacksburg Police Department is investigating an Officer Involved Shooting, which occurred Friday, (Aug 26) in the 3000 block of Yellow Sulfer Road in the Town of Blacksburg.

The incident began at approximately 2:00 a.m. when Blacksburg Police Department received a call for a “Welfare Check” at the residence. Officers from Blacksburg Police Department and deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene, and attempted to de-escalate the incident.

The male subject at the residence was speaking with officers, when the subject went into the residence and returned with a firearm. The subject discharged the firearm at the officers, and the officers returned fire, striking the subject.

Joshua David Amodeo, 29, of Blacksburg, Va. died at the scene.

No officers or deputies were injured in the incident.

The incident remains under investigation.

At the completion of the investigation, the Virginia State Police will turn the findings over to the Blacksburg Commonwealth Attorney’s Office for adjudication.

The Virginia State Police will have no further comment on this investigation.
