Man Who Hit Brown Is In Jail
Troy Brown is in jail, charged with being the man who threw a stool and hit Deputy Sheriff Sam Brown in the forehead Saturday afternoon in Tom Ellis’ restaurant. It is not known when he will be given a hearing. Sheriff Dyche made the arrest.

Bootleggers Rob Ships In Harbor
Bootleg pirates have so far extended their operations that they now board ships at their piers in New York Harbor, seize shipments of liquor that have been smuggled and make away in speed launches. Rum pirates boarded the S.S. Para Saturday night, it was stated today, attacked bootleggers, who had a cargo of liquor hidden in the mailing room, and escaped with 29 cases of whisky and liquors, after a gun battle.

Boy Bitten By Dog At Clifton Forge
John Hall, 7 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Preston Hall of Venus Way, Clifton Forge, was painfully injured yesterday when he was bitten about the ear by a bulldog, said to be owned by a resident of Vulcan Street. After sustaining the injury, the child was taken to the C&O Hospital where seven stitches were required to close the wound. Following his treatment at the hospital, the boy was allowed to return to his home.

Council Sanctions Plan Of FAA For Ingalls Field “Deer Fence”
Covington City Council last night voted to amend its original contract on Ingalls Field Airport at Hot Springs with the federal government to permit the later to erect a fence around the field which would keep deer off runways and increase plane safety. Duncan Byrd, attorney for the Airport Committee and Commonwealth’s Attorney for the Bath and Federal Aviation Authorities had requested the fence and added that since four airplanes had expressed interest in initiating service at the field, safety factors were of prime importance. The fence will be paid for with federal funding and will cost an estimated $18,000, he said.

Covington, Private Company Planning Hydroelectric Plant On Jackson River
A joint venture with the federal government to produce hydroelectric power at Gathright Dam would save the city of Covington millions of dollars, so the city is continuing its plans to build a generating station at Gathright through a partnership with a private firm. Covington has held the license for such a project since 1982, and hopes eventually to see a windfall of several hundred thousand dollars yearly for its small part of the project.

Biden Sparks Romney Rebuke With Danville “Chains” Remark
Vice President Joe Biden sparked a campaign commotion Tuesday, telling an audience in southern Virginia that included hundreds of black voters that Republican Mitt Romney wanted to put them “back in chains” by deregulating Wall Street. He later mocked Republican criticism over the remark while conceding he meant to use different words.
