RICHMOND, Va. (VR) – The Bath County High School golf team recently had the opportunity to attend the Korn Ferry Tour Championship, where 60 of the season’s top professional golfers competed for a chance to earn a spot on the PGA Tour in 2027.
The Chargers attended the weeklong event at the invitation of the PGA, watching some of the sport’s top rising players compete for one of 20 PGA Tour cards awarded during the TOURbound ceremony.
The trip gave Bath County golfers an opportunity to see firsthand the preparation, discipline and mental focus required to compete at the professional level. Players followed the competition throughout the tournament, gaining insight into the strategies and work ethic needed to succeed in golf.
One of the highlights came Saturday when the Chargers had the opportunity to meet Blades Brown, one of the youngest golfers to earn a PGA Tour card through the Korn Ferry Tour.
Following his round, tournament personnel were clearing spectators from the area as Brown made his way toward the clubhouse. When one of the Chargers called out about the golf team, an official made an exception, allowing the Bath County players to take a team photo with Brown.
The trip was made possible through support from several organizations. The PGA provided tournament tickets and opportunities to interact with professional golfers, while Omni assisted with lodging in Richmond. The Virginia Highlands Youth Golf Academy contributed funding, and the Bath County School Board unanimously approved support for the trip.
Despite challenging weather conditions associated with a hurricane, the Chargers were able to enjoy the experience and witness professional golfers achieve their goal of reaching the PGA Tour.
The experience gave Bath County’s young golfers a closer look at what can be accomplished through dedication and hard work as they prepare for the 2027 high school golf season.
