FISHERSVILLE, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany Cougars struggled to contain Wilson Memorial’s ground attack Friday night, falling 42-10 to the Green Hornets on the road.
Wilson Memorial controlled the line of scrimmage and kept Alleghany running back Buddy Leisure-White in check for much of the night.
Alleghany opened the scoring with a 34-yard field goal from Mason Hale with 5:56 remaining in the first quarter. Wilson Memorial answered with seven points in the opening quarter before adding 21 in the second to take a 28-3 halftime lead.
Leisure-White broke free for a 42-yard touchdown run with 4:53 remaining in the third quarter. Hale added the extra point, accounting for Alleghany’s final points of the night. The Green Hornets added touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters to secure the 42-10 victory.
Alleghany head coach Will Fields said improving play along the line of scrimmage remains a priority heading into Friday’s home matchup with Riverheads.
“We need to work on our line of scrimmage. We will be continuing to improve on both sides. Riverheads presents the same type of challenges,” Fields told The Virginian Review.
The Cougars will have little time to make adjustments as Riverheads brings a similar ground-oriented offense to Covington on Friday night.
The 2026 Hall of Fame night will be celebrated Friday night prior to the start of the game.
