For the fourth straight year there was no winner of the Valley Baseball League (VBL) All-Star Game (ASG) after a massive storm swept through Front Royal on Sunday evening as batting practice was taking place.
Bing Crosby Stadium, the home of Front Royal Cardinals were the hosts of the VBL ASG this year. As the storm swept through Front Royal on Sunday it left the outfield and infield with puddles of water.
There were so many events that were scheduled to take place on Sunday, from the 60-yard Dash, Home Run Derby, VBL Hall of Fame inductions, the ASG itself, and so much more.
They were able to get the 60-yard dash in just before the storm swept through. Woodstock River Bandits, RJ Stinson, won the event, while Jonah Cox from the Strasburg Express finished in second place.
The last time the ASG was completed was in 2018. Since then the ASG has either not taken place or was stopped in the middle of the game.
In 2019, the game ended in the fourth inning as a massive downpour cut the game short as it was washed out. In 2020, the VBL did not have a season due to COVID-19, and just last season in 2021, the game had to end abruptly due to a mound issue in Harrisonburg at Eagle Rock Stadium.
With the regular season scheduled to end on July 24th, there will be no makeup date for the ASG.
