Down to their final three outs and trailing by three runs, the Covington Lumberjacks (3-6) needed to rally to avoid another loss to the Waynesboro Generals (6-5).

After Carlos Castillo (0-for-1) walked to start the ninth inning, and Will Hudler (3-for-4) singled, the Lumberjacks had the potentially tying run come to the plate.

With Joshua Rodriguez (2-for-2) at the plate and ahead of the count 1-0, Rodriguez crushed a game-tying three run home run to tie the game at 6-6.

However the high of the tying home run only lasted for so long.

The Lumberjacks with momentum on their side, would be unable to score another run in the ninth and in the tenth inning as the game ended up in extra innings.

In the bottom of the tenth inning, the Generals were able to load the bases with no outs. With the bases loaded, Miguel Useche (0-for-0) walked with the bases loaded to bring in the winning run.

The loss for the Lumberjacks extended the teams losing streak to six straight games.

Hudler led the Lumberjacks with three hits in the loss while scoring two runs. J. Rodriguez led the team with three RBI’s. The Lumberjacks were outhit 11-9.

The Lumberjacks will look to snap their losing streak this evening when the team heads to Gypsy Hill Park in Staunton to take on the Staunton Braves at 7:30 p.m.
