HOT SPRINGS, (VA) – Samantha “Sam” Plecker, LPTA, Physical Therapist, and native of Bath County, is responsible for the success of coordinating annual sports physicals for area High School and Middle School Athletes.
The Virginia High School League (VHSL) requires any high school or middle school student planning to participate in organized sports to submit a physical examination form prior to tryouts, practice, or competition.
The Bath Community Physicians Group team is happy to support the young athletes in our area year-after-year in the convenience of Bath, Alleghany, and Covington schools. This year, the program accommodated over 200 students, and physicals were provided free of charge.
“A sports physical will help ensure your child is safe to participate in organized sports. Through a review of the student’s health history and a physical examination, we can determine risk factors such as pre-existing illnesses and undiagnosed health issues,” says Dr. Scott J. Crosby, Medical Director, Bath Community Physicians Group. “It is a step towards good practice in the discipline of taking responsibility for one’s own health and reaching optimal athletic performance. Sports physicals provide our healthcare team with a connection and opportunity to share the importance of wellness and healthcare with area youth and their families.”
