Jake Phillips, a 2004 Bath County High School graduate, is returning back home.
On Tuesday evening, Phillips, was hired as the schools new head football coach and athletic director.
The hiring was made official at a Bath County School Board meeting.
Phillips, previously spent the last three football seasons as head coach for Staunton High School where posted a 6-20 overall record.
At Bath County High School, Phillips, is replacing Chase Davidson in the athletic director role. Davidson, accepted the same position at James River High School just weeks ago. Phillips, also will be replacing Dillon Fry as head football coach. Fry, spent the last two seasons with the team where he had a 2-13 record.
Before his time with at Staunton High School, Phillips, was the head coach at the same school Davidson is off to, James River.
At Bath County, Phillips, was the quarterback of the team where guided them to a record of 49-5, as well as a state runner-up title in 2000 and 2003 and a VHSL Group A Division Title.
The Bath County Chargers football team has not had a winning season in 12 years. The last time the team posted a winning record was in 2010 when the team finished 6-5. The head coach then was Will Fields who is currently the Alleghany High School head football coach.
Phillips, younger brother, John, spent several seasons in the NFL and is the only native of the Alleghany Highlands to be selected in the NFL Draft. In 2009, John, was a sixth round selection of the Dallas Cowboys. He also had stints with the Arizona Cardinals, New Orleans Saints, Denver Broncos, and San Diego Chargers (now known as Los Angeles Chargers).
