Kinley Eggleston’s season dominance continued on Monday evening following the Alleghany Lady Mountaineers (8-2-1) 3-1 road victory against the James River Knights.
Eggleston, led the way for the Lady Mounties as she put together two goals in the teams win. The two goals scored were her 27 and 28th of the regular season.
The Lady Mounties were coming off of a tie to Carroll County last Thursday where the team missed out on a few opportunities to score goals that could of changed the outcome of the game as the team missed seven shots on goal.
On Monday, the Lady Mounties made sure those opportunities did not go to waste as they were a perfect 3-for-3 with shots on goal.
“The girls are playing well. We have faced each team in the District (Three Rivers) once and we are 1st with a 4-0-1 record. Our district is strong. Radford, Glenvar, and James River are all top teams not only in our District but in our region”, said Lady Mounties head coach, Bob Donnan.
The teams other goal came from senior Ashtyn Bishop who recorded her 11th goal of the season.
Emma Williams, once again, had a dominant performance as the Lady Mounties goalkeepers. Williams, a senior, collected 10 saves in the win. Her 10 saves was the third most she has had this season in a game. The Knights did manage one goal on Williams, which was the first time in a Lady Mounties victory that the opposing team was able to score a goal.
The defense of the Lady Mounties went further than Williams efforts at goalkeeper in the game as the team smothered the Knights. The Lady Mounties collected 17 steals.
Sophomore, Abby Williams, led the defensive charge with a game-high seven steals. After the win over the Knights, Williams, now has 31 on the season which is the second most on the team. Senior, Payton Reynolds, has the teams most steals on the season with 35. Reynolds, had six in the teams win. It was also a season-high for her.
Meanwhile, senior, Carlee Lanford, who has a dozen goals on the season, collected her seventh assist in the win over the Knights. Eggleston, also collected her seventh assists as well.
The Lady Mounties second half run against District opponents begins today as the team will look to improve upon the victory over the Knights when the team hosts the Radford Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. at Mountaineer Field.
