The Alleghany Lady Mountaineers (4-1) continued its recent dominance on the soccer field after erupting for 11 goals on Wednesday evening in a shutout victory over the William Fleming Colonels.
The seniors dominated the game, scoring 8 of the 11 goals scored for the Lady Mounties. Led by senior, Kinley Eggleston, she provided the team with a game-high four goals in the win. Eggleston, is now at 15 goals this season in just five games. This is the second time this season that Eggleston has scored four goals against the Colonels. She did such a feat in the teams season opener on March 16th. Eggleston, also provided the team with two assists.
Meanwhile, seniors Ashtyn Bishop and Carlee Lanford, each had two goals. Lanford, is second on the team in goals with nine on the season.
While the seniors scored a combined eight goals, the Lady Mounties were provided offense from junior midfielder, Faith Howell, who scored her first two goals of the season in the win. Lucy Nicely, provided the team with her second goal of the year on Wednesday against the Colonels.
Sophomore, Abby Williams, continued to be a defensive nightmare of opposing opponents as she provided the Lady Mounties with three steals in the win. A. Williams, now has 17 steals on the year which leads the team.
Senior goalkeeper, Emma Williams, had one save in her fourth shutout of the season. E. Williams is now up to 24 saves through five games.
The win for the Lady Mounties pushed their record to 4-1 on the season. The team has now won three straight games. During their three-game winning streak, the team has scored 23 goals. It was also the teams second win on the season against the Colonels. The two teams met in the Lady Mounties season opener where the team shut them out 10-0 on March 16th.
The Lady Mounties will look to continue their winning streak this coming Thursday when the team hosts Byrd. Byrd is the only team to have beaten the Lady Mounties this season, which came in a 2-1 loss.
