Coming off of a historic season for the Alleghany Lady Mountaineers soccer team in which the team put together the programs first winning season ever and hosted a Regional 2C Playoff game, the Lady Mounties will look for even more success this season.
Last season, the team finished with an overall record of 6-3-2 as they held opponents to only 12 scores on the season while scoring 50 of their own goals.
The 2022 girls soccer team will return five of their six players who made the First and Second Team All-Three Rivers District. Kinley Eggleston, Carlee Lanford, and Emma Williams, were all on the All-Three Rivers District First Team. While, Ashtyn Bishop, and Payton Reynolds, were on the All-Three Rivers District Second Team. Erin May, who graduated last year, was on the All-Three Rivers Second Team.
Eggleston led the offense last year, while putting together a team best 25 goals on the season along with 5 assists
Lanford had six goals on the season to go along with six assists.
Williams, the teams goalkeeper had 130 saves on the year, including three shutouts.
Bishop, helped the team in many ways. She had three goals on the season, three assists and was a key contributor on defense with 12 steals.
Reynolds, was a defensive nightmare for the opposing teams. She led the defensive attack all season as long as she led the way for the team with 42 steals.
With key players returning this season and a talented supporting cast, there will be brighter days ahead for the Mountaineers girls soccer team.
The girls soccer team will participate in a Jamboree this Saturday at William Fleming High School. At 5:30 p.m., the Lady Mounties will play Liberty and at 6:20 p.m. they will play William Fleming.
The girls home opener will be on Thursday, March 24th against Stuarts Draft at 5:30 p.m.
