On Thursday, May 20, 2021, recent 2021 graduate of Christiansburg High School, MJ Hunter made his commitment to Concord University.
At Concord, MJ will continue with baseball.
“I trusted in God’s plan and he placed me where I am meant to be. I am excited to continue my academic and athletic career at Concord University” said, MJ.
You may recognize MJ’s last name. His father, Michael, was a basketball player at Alleghany High School. He graduated in 1993.
Michael would continue with basketball at Ferrum College.
He spent three years coaching the girls basketball team at East Montgomery High School and has been the Christiansburg High School basketball coach since 2017.
Christiansburg was invited to the inaugural Mountaineer Invitational (MIT) in 2018 at Alleghany High School where they finished second. In a return trip to the 2019 MIT, Michael would coach them to an MIT championship game victory over Stuarts Draft, 117-76.
Michael’s son, MJ, was the MIT MVP and scored 16 points in the championship.
MJ on playing at AHS where his dad graduated from, “It was an honor to play in the same gym that my Dad made a name for himself and to win tournament MVP. There us nothing better than making your parents, grandparents and entire family proud”.
Through eight baseball games thus far this season, MJ has a batting average of .350, 3 RBI’s, and six stolen bases. In 8.2 innings pitched, MJ has an earned run average (ERA) of 2.42
MJ was also the schools, Quarterback, Punter, and Safety for football.
In all of his sports accomplishments, MJ graduated with a 3.6 GPA and was also in the National Honor Society.
