Dining currently sends about 300 tons of food waste and compostable service ware each year to an off-campus composting facility, material that could eventually be processed at the planned facility at Kentland Farm. HOT SPRINGS – “Our effort is there, we just gotta to put four quarters together.”

That quote from Coach Steve Shaver described exactly how Bath County’s game against Pocahontas went on Thursday night as the Chargers were defeated 61-49 in the 2011 Allegheny Mountain Radio Basketball Tournament championship.

Despite of being outscored 21-9 in the first quarter and having key turnovers in various points of the game, Coach Shaver’s team never gave up in the losing effort.

Pocahontas’ leading scorer Steve Halterman proved to be a problem for Bath County’s defense in the first half. Coach Shaver came into the game knowing that he was one of the players that would have to be contained.

“We knew that they had a couple of shooters, we had a defense designed to stop that. When No. 22 hit the third three, we switched to a 1-3-1” he stated.

Chipping in with the scoring for Pocahontas was Jed Sheets with 16 points.

Aaron Newmarker’s performance for Bath County was a typical one that he gives Coach Shaver. Playing big in the paint, he was Bath’s leading scorer with 15 points and he also grabbed eight rebounds.

Shaver said that, “He has to play big and he has been the past few games. When he scores, it makes our whole offense more effective.”

Matthew Quantz was another Bath County post player with a solid performance in the paint, scoring eight points and grabbing eight rebounds.

Jonah Ford chipped in with seven points, Ryan Plecker scored five points, Owen Fry and Thomas Shrader each had four points and rounding out Bath County’s scoring was Brandon Via and Xavier Smothers scoring two points apiece.

In the third-place game, Highland County defeated the Faith Christian Warriors 51-46.
