Virginia Tech Dining Services is a key partner in the university’s effort to reduce food waste. Dining currently sends about 300 tons of food waste and compostable service ware each year to an off-campus composting facility, material that could eventually be processed at the planned facility at Kentland Farm. ELLISTON – Chad Lipes fired the jumper with a few seconds remaining, but was off the mark.

That’s okay as teammate Jordan Miller was there for the putback as time expired to lift the Covington boys past Eastern Montgomery Friday night, 44-42.

“Just a great team effort tonight,” said Covington coach Rob Bennett this morning via telephone. “We were missing three kids so we only had eight players dressed out. I thought those who did play did a tremendous job of coming together and played hard.”

The Cougars only had three players dot the scoring column with Lipes leading the way with 20 points. Freshman Quinton Hunter added 14 points and Miller finished with 10.

James Fields led Eastern Montgomery with 16 points.

Covington (4-4) will be back in action Tuesday on the road at Glenvar.
