Today’s Headline: Foundary Damaged By Fire At Clifton Forge.
Sparks flying from the cupola of the foundary at Clifton Forge set fire to the foundary roof yesterday afternoon and caused damages estimated at $25 before the blaze was extinguised by the city fire department.
Making connection at the fire plug in front of the Clifton Forge Grocery Company, the firemen used 600 feet of their newly-purchased hose in order to reach the flames.

Today’s Headline: ‘The Mikado’ Comic Opera This Thursday And Friday.
The Covington High School Chorus will present Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic operetta “The Mikado” Thursday and Friday at Curfman Hall. Curtain time for both evenings will be 8 o’clock.
Mrs. Nell Fleshman, director of the production, said that costumes have arrived and full dress rehearsals will be held this week.
The Dunlap Ruritan Club held its regular meeting Friday, May 12 at the Dunlap School. Harold Carter, president, presided over the meeting.

Today’s Headline: Halmode Plants Contribute To Economy Of Highlands.
Halmode Apparel Inc., with two plants in Covington, is hosting an open house at both localities Sunday from 2-4 p.m.
The public is invited to tour the Covington plant at 606 S. Monroe Ave. and the Alleghany plant at 920 S. Lexington Ave.
A bridge on State Route 616 in the Rich Patch area of Alleghany County collapsed early this morning around 4:30 a.m. There were no injuries and no vehicles were on the structure.

Today’s Headline: City School Board Moving Ahead Wit Land Acquisition.
The Covington City School System is pushing ahead with the purchase of property on Route 18 for the construction of a new elementary-middle school.
The first phase of renovation of the former Chesapeake and Ohio passenger depot on Maple Avenue in Covington is near completion.
