COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Rain couldn’t wash out the spirit of the Alleghany Cruisers on Saturday as the organization hosted its 7th Annual Back the Blue Scholarship Car Show, raising $2,200 to benefit two graduates pursuing a career in law enforcement. The scholarship is available to Alleghany and Bath County students.
While the weather kept some participants away, the event still drew 48 show vehicles, a turnout organizers considered a success given the conditions.
Several law enforcement agencies were on hand throughout the day, including the Virginia State Police, Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office, Covington Police Department and Clifton Forge Police Department. Officers interacted with attendees and selected the recipients of the event’s Law Enforcement Pick awards.
This year’s Law Enforcement Pick winners were Jimmy Kershner, Michael Welch, Chris Falcon, Elmer Weese, Ray Lipes, D.J. Simmons, Gavin Hawk, Sonny Nelson, Nick Tingler, Danny Hiner, Donald Morse, Eddie Fisher, Wayne Clark, Joseph Jerman, Eddy Clemons, Robby and Violet Rogers, and Susie Ryder.
Organizers said the weather created challenges but did little to dampen the support shown by participants, sponsors and the community. “Considering the hand we were dealt, I feel like everyone made the best of it and made the 7th Annual Back the Blue Scholarship Car Show a great success,” Robert Floyd IV, The Alleghany Cruisers President.
