August Cases Heard In Alleghany Circuit Court

Cases heard in August before Judge Malfourd W. Trumbo in Alleghany County Circuit Court. Edward K. Stein, commonwealth’s attorney for Alleghany County and Covington, prosecuted.

Aug. 2 Hearings

Willis Jonathon Fraley, Covington, was found guilty of violating probation.

The offense date was April 28, 2008.

Fraley’s probation was revoked. He was sentenced to one year in prison and assessed $493 costs.

Jennifer Leigh Nicely, Clifton Forge, pled guilty to two counts of selling/distributing a Schedule III drug.

The offense dates were Nov. 29, 2010; and Feb. 2, 2011.

Nicely was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended, and ordered to pay $797 restitution. She was assessed $1,655 costs and placed on three years supervised probation.

Nicely’s driver’s license was suspended for six months. The court approved the issuance of a restricted license that will expire Feb. 1, 2012.

Christopher Scott Skidmore, Covington, pled guilty to possession of a Schedule I or II drug.

The offense date was Feb. 2, 2011.

The court deferred disposition of the case. Skidmore was assessed $845 costs and placed on supervised probation for two years. His driver’s license was suspended for six months.

Travis Wade Holland, Clifton Forge, pled guilty to distributing less than one-half ounce of marijuana.
The offense date was Nov. 30, 2010.

He was sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended, and assessed $316.50 costs. Holland was ordered to pay $402 restitution. He was placed on unsupervised probation for one year. His driver’s license was suspended for six months. The court approved the issuance of a restricted license that will expire Feb. 2, 2012.

Ashley Danielle Humphreys, Clifton Forge, pled guilty to selling/distributing a Schedule III drug and possession of a Schedule I or II drug with intent to distribute.

The offense dates were June 7, 2010, and Jan. 28, 2011.

She was sentenced to four years in prison, suspended, and placed on three years supervised probation and assessed $1,994.88 costs. Humphreys’ driver’s license was suspended for six months. The court approved the issuance of a restricted license that will expire Feb. 1, 2012. Nicely was ordered to pay $176 restitution.

Aug. 15 Hearings
Allyson Brooke Ryder, Hot Springs, pled guilty to possession of a Schedule I or II drug.
The offense date was Feb. 2, 2011.

The court deferred disposition of the case. Ryder was assessed $939.74 costs and placed on two years supervised probation. His driver’s license was suspended for six months.

Bryan Eagle Wright, Covington, pled guilty to possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana with intent to distribute.

The offense date was Dec. 3, 2010.

Wright was sentenced to 12 months in jail, with six months suspended. He was assessed $341.50 costs and ordered to pay $140 restitution. Wright was placed on unsupervised probation for one year. His driver’s license was suspended for six months.

Walter Emerson Paitsel Jr. pled guilty to four counts of possessing more than one-half ounce to five pounds of marijuana with intent to distribute.

The offense date was March 24, 2011.

He was sentenced to eight years in prison with six years suspended, and assessed $2,205 costs. Paitsel will be placed on three years supervised probation. His driver’s license was suspended for six months.

Michael Edward Fridley, Covington, pled guilty to possessing a Schedule I or II drug.

The offense date was Jan. 18, 2011.

He was sentenced to five years in prison with three years, six months suspended. Fridley will be placed on three years supervised probation following release from custody. He was assessed $545 costs. His driver’s license was suspended for six months.

Fridley was also found guilty of violating probation by committing a felonious offense and a misdemeanor offense.
The offense date was March 26, 2011.

He was sentenced to five months and jail and assessed $203 costs. The jail sentence will run concurrently with the prison sentence for the drug conviction.

Jeffrey Alan Richmond, Blacksburg, pled no contest to malicious wounding.

The offense date was March 12, 2011.

The court took the case under advisement. He was placed on two years unsupervised probation and ordered to pay $1,141.34 costs.

Tempest Bel Lee Lowman, Covington, was sentenced on a charge of embezzlement involving less than $200.
The offense date was Aug. 1, 2009.

Lowman pled guilty to the offense Aug. 3, 2010. She was sentenced Aug. 15 to 12 months in jail, suspended, and assessed costs of $247. Lowman was placed on two years supervised probation.

Charles Frank Linkous, Clifton Forge, pled guilty to assault and battery of a family member.
The offense date was April 6, 2011.

He was sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended, and assessed $752 costs. He was placed on unsupervised probation for one year.

Dominic Zachary Jackson, Covington, pled guilty to selling or providing for the resale of a Schedule I or II drug (two counts).

The offenses occurred June 3, 2010.

Jackson was sentenced to 10 years in prison, suspended, and assessed $1,090 costs. He was ordered to pay $464 restitution. Jackson was placed on five years supervised probation. His driver’s license was suspended for six months.

Joshua Lee Depriest, Clifton Forge, pled guilty to possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana with intent to distribute.

The offense date was March 25, 2011.
Depriest was sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended, and assessed $316.50 costs. He was placed on unsupervised probation for one year and ordered to report to the community corrections program. Depriest’s driver’s license was suspended for six months. The court approved the issuance of a restricted license that will expire Feb. 14, 2012.

Elijah James Widener, Lawrenceburg, Ind., pled guilty to illegally possession a cell phone as a prisoner.
The offense date was July 3, 2011.

Widener was sentenced to two years in jail, suspended, credited with time served, and assessed $572.65. He was placed on three years unsupervised probation.

Aug. 19 Hearings
Andrew R. McRoberts, Manakin Sabot, was found guilty of operating a motor vehicle with defective equipment.

The offense date was Nov. 8, 2010. McRoberts appealed the case from Alleghany County General District Court. He was originally charged with reckless driving, 91 mph in a 71 zone.

He was fined $250 and $161 costs.
Alicia May Brown, Roanoke, was found guilty to reckless driving, 89 mph in a 70 zone.

The offense date was Jan. 28, 2011.Brown had appealed the case from District Court.

She was fined $54 and assessed $161 costs.

Gert Rodman Winge, Covington, pled guilty to allowing a dog to run at large and having a dangerous/vicious dog.
The offense date was April 13, 2011. Winge had appealed the cases from District Court.

He was fined $25 and assessed $280 costs.

Aug. 24 Hearings
Joshua David Holliday, Charleston, W.Va., was found guilty of violating probation.

The offense date was July 28, 2008.
Holliday was sentenced to one year in prison, suspended, and credited for time served. He was assessed $658.50 costs and placed on unsupervised probation for one year.

Susan Darlene Johnson, Clifton Forge, pled guilty to two counts of grand larceny.

The offense dates were Aug. 13, 2008; and March 7, 2011.
Johnson was sentenced to five years in prison, suspended, and placed on supervised probation for two years. She was assessed $2,434 costs.

Lorrie A. Forbes, Covington, pled guilty to committing larceny through welfare fraud totaling less than $200.
The offense date was Sept. 1, 2007.

She was sentenced to 60 days in jail, suspended, and assessed $652.50 costs.

Jessica Hatcher, Clifton Forge, pled guilty to possession of a Schedule I or II drug with intent to distribute.
The offense date was Jan. 28, 2011.

She was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended, and assessed $1,040.50 costs. Hatcher was placed on two years supervised probation and ordered to pay $365 restitution. Her driver’s license was suspended for six months.

Susan D. Johnson, Covington, pled guilty to possession with intent to manufacture amphetamine.
The offense date was Jan. 18, 2011.

She was sentenced to five years in prison with three years suspended. Johnson will be placed on three years supervised probation following her release. Her driver’s license was suspended for six months.

Christina Shaffer, Covington, pled guilty to two counts of welfare fraud.

The offense date was Oct. 19, 2010.

The court took the cases under advisement. Shaffer was placed on two years unsupervised probation and ordered to pay $5,017.16 restitution.

Bon Edward Williamson, Selma, pled guilty to petit larceny and entering property to commit damage.

The offense date was Jan. 25, 2011.
Williamson was sentenced to six months in jail, suspended, and assessed $494 costs. He was placed on unsupervised probation for one year.

Christopher Neil Chambers, Covington, pled guilty to possession of a Schedule I or II drug with intent to distribute.

The offense date was Feb. 15, 2011.
He was sentenced to five years in prison with four years suspended. Chambers was assessed $595 costs and will be placed on three years supervised probation following release from custody. His driver’s license was suspended for six months.

Matthew McThaniel Depriest, Covington, pled guilty to two counts of possessing more than one-half ounce to five pounds with intent to distribute.

The offense dates were Aug. 10, 2010; and March 9, 2011.
He was sentenced to three years in prison, with two years, 10 months and 20 days suspended. He was assessed $1,140 costs and will be placed on three years supervised probation following release. Depriest was ordered to pay $1,141 restitution. His driver’s license was suspended for six months.

Travis W. Hicks, Covington, pled guilty to two counts of possessing more than one-half ounce to five pounds with intent to distribute.

The offense date was March 24, 2011.

Hicks was sentenced to four years in prison, suspended, and placed on two years supervised probation. He was assessed $1,115 costs and ordered to pay $374 restitution.His driver’s was suspended for six months.

Sarah Ashley Lemons, Covington, pled guilty to selling or providing for the resale of a Schedule I or II drug.
The offense date was June 2, 2010.

Lemons was sentenced to five years in prison with four years, three months suspended. She will be placed on three years supervised probation following release from custody.

Lemons was assessed $1,764.50 costs and ordered to pay $323 restitution. Her driver’s license was suspended for six months.

Lionel Dwayne Walton, Covington, pled guilty to two counts of possessing more than one-half ounce to five pounds with intent to distribute.

The offense dates were Oct. 25, 2010, and Oct. 27, 2010.
He was sentenced to three years in prison with two years, six months suspended. Walton will be placed on two years supervised probation following release from custody. He was assessed $1,896 costs and ordered to pay $121 restitution.

Walton’s driver’s license was suspended for six months.
Kenneth Eugene Tingler, Covington, pled guilty to property destruction totaling less than $1,000 in damage.

The offense date was April 26, 2011.
He was sentenced to 60 days in jail, suspended, and assessed $281 costs. He was ordered to pay $775 restitution.
Aug. 29 Hearings

Arianna White, Clifton Forge, pled guilty to entering property to commit damage and destruction of property involving less than $1,000 in damage.

The offense date was Jan. 26, 2011.
White was sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended, and assessed $347 costs. She was placed on unsupervised probation for one year.

Amanda Beth Leonard, Covington, pled guilty to possession of a Schedule I or II drug with intent to distribute and selling or providing for the resale of a Schedule I or II drug.

The offense dates were April 2, 2011, and April 9, 2011.

Leonard was sentenced to 10 years in prison with eight years suspended and assessed $1,535 costs. She will be placed on three years supervised probation following release from custody. Leonard was ordered to pay $535 restitution. Her driver’s license was suspended for six months.

Christopher Thrift, Clifton Forge, pled guilty to selling or providing for the resale of a Schedule I or II drug.
The offense date was Jan. 21, 2011.

Thrift was sentenced to five years in prison, with four years suspended, and assessed $570 costs. He will be placed on three years supervised probation following release from custody. Thrift was ordered to pay $294 restitution. His driver’s license was suspended for six months.

Joel Herman Clarence Hall, Eagle Rock, was found guilty of violating probation.

The offense date was March 30, 2011.

His probation was revoked. Hall was sentenced to three years, six months in prison and assessed $203 costs.

Following release from custody, he will be placed on five years supervised probation.

Richard Riley Danik, Covington, was found guilty to violating probation.

The offense date was Aug. 11, 2011.

The court revoked Danik’s probation and sentenced him to four years in prison. He was assessed $203 costs.

Danik pled guilty to selling or distributing a Schedule III drug and selling or providing for the resale of a Schedule III drug.

The offense dates were Sept. 16, 2010; and April 5, 2011.
Danik was sentenced to seven years in prison with six years suspended, leaving a total of five years to serve when combined with the sentence for the probation violation. He was assessed $1,090 costs and will be placed on three years supervised probation following release from custody.

Danik’s driver’s license was suspended for six months.

Eunice Elaine Watson, Clifton Forge, pled guilty to four counts of embezzlement involving more than $200.

The offense dates were July 1, 2008; Oct. 1, 2008; Jan. 1, 2009; and April 1, 2009.

Watson was sentenced to four years in prison, suspended, and placed on three years supervised probation. She was assessed $1,605 costs and ordered to pay $13,130.15 restitution.

COVINGTON, Va. (VR) - Kids in colorful Easter attire filled Main Street on Saturday as Covington Parks and Recreation hosted its annual parade and egg hunt.
Wagons and bikes rolled through the route before the crowd gathered at City Park, where eggs were spread across the grounds for the hunt. Children quickly filled baskets as the event shifted into high gear.
The Easter Bunny posed for photos and handed out gifts, drawing steady lines throughout the afternoon.
