The 15th Annual Robert “Gency” Bowers Memorial Golf Tournament was held Thursday at Cliff View Golf Club.
The team of Gene Lodge, Mike Neighbors, Chris Dressler and Dean Sexton won the tournament title, shooting a 13-under-par 59.
The tournament is sponsored each year by the Alleghany Highlands Kiwanis Club.
Ten years ago, the event was named for Bowers, a dedicated Kiwanis Club member and an avid golfer who provided invaluable assistance to the tournament in previous years.

6th Place – Rock Henderson, Darrin Nicely, Dalton Nicely and Wendell Rowland (9-under-par)
7th Place – Gerald Simpson, Danny Clark, Mike Guth and Steve Tucker (9-under-par)
8th Place – Nick Moga, Ray Rogers, Keith Flanders and Ed Hemp (8-under-par)
9th Place – Bill Jonas, Toby Jonas, Chris Rice and Tony Lofton (8-under-par)
10th Place – Dave Caldwell, Jack Burch, Ken Hanula and Glenn Smith (8-under-par)
11th Place – Timmy Byer, Brett Smith, Dusty Rowland and Dale Harmon (7-under-par)
12th Place – Claud Crosby, Tom Duck, Steve Hawks and Jason Dixon (6-under-par)
13th Place – Norm Garris, Todd Stutler, Craig McCue and Robbie Patterson
14th Place – Donald Haynes, Steven Downs and Sarah Campbell (Even Par)
Individual awards were presented to golfers in the following categories:
Closest-To-The-Pin: No. 4 – Greg Vess; No. 7 – Gary Whitehead; No. 11 – Joe Carpenter; No. 14 – Timmy Byer; and No. 16 – Nick Moga.
Long Drives: Men – Dalton Nicely and Steve Tucker; and Senior – Ray Rogers.
Longest Putt on Hole No. 6: Rick Ayers.
The Alleghany Highlands Kiwanis Club has provided almost 90 years of community service to Covington, Clifton Forge and surrounding Alleghany County.
Throughout the rich history of the club many dedicated members have completed countless services projects to improve the community.
The Kiwanis Club places major emphasis on helping the youth in our area.
The proceeds generated from the golf tournament will allow the club to continue supporting many worthwhile projects including the annual Christmas Party for needy children, scholarships sponsored in the area high schools and monetary donations made through the Red Cross to all local fire victims.
