WHITE SULPHURS SPRINGS, W.Va. – The Covington golf team traveled to The Greenbrier Thursday for a match against Greenbrier East and Nicholas County on The Greenbrier’s famed Old White Course, site of the PGA TOUR’s Greenbrier Classic.
The host Spartans won the match with a 319, while Nicholas County was second with a 354. Covington rounded out the scoring with a 453.
“I know it does not look like we are getting better, but we really are,” said Covington coach Rob Bennett. “The kids are swinging the club better, but we are just struggling to score.
Shawn Perkins led the Cougars with a 95, while Travis Warlitner shot a 113. Josh Bush tallied a 120 and Megan Lockhart shot a 125. Jacob Lockhart rounded out the CHS scoring with a 126.
Greenbrier East’s Josh Carter fired a 77 to earn medalist honors on the afternoon.
“We are very appreciative to have been given the opportunity to play at The Greenbrier,” added Bennett.
The Covington golf team will be back in action next Thursday at home in a Pioneer District mini-tournament at Cliff View Golf Club & Inn.
