Four new members of the Alleghany Hall of Fame were introduced Friday night.
C.W. Clemmons, Oliver Jordan III, Shannon Johnson and Kenny Higgins were recognized before Friday night’s home opener with the Bath County Chargers.
“Again, another outstanding group – not just great players, but great individuals,” said Alleghany Athletic Director John Hutchison.
“The three players show what kind of student-athletes we produce,” Hutchison added. “They certainly excelled after they went to college. And with Kenny, he was a great coach and a great motivator.”
Oliver Jordan
Jordan was a three-year letter winner in football and a two-year letterman in basketball for the Mountaineers.
In 1995, he was All-Blue Ridge District, All-Region III and honorable mention All-State at running back and the Virginian Review Offensive Player of the Year.
After graduating from Alleghany, Jordan was a four-year letterman at Emory and Henry, establishing school records with 4,059 yards rushing in his career and 310 yards in one game. He also amassed 5,307 all-purpose yards during his career, scoring 43 career rushing touchdowns and 280 points.
In 1998, he was named the Virginia State Player of the Year for Division II and III and received Third Team All-American honors. He was named a Second Team All-American in 1999.
C.W. Clemmons
Clemmons was a three-year letter winner in both football and track at Alleghany and a two-year letterman in basketball.
In 1999, he received Honorable Mention All-Blue Ridge District honors as a running back and was named to the Virginian Review All-Area Team as a running back.
In 2000, he was named an All-Blue Ridge District linebacker, and rushed for 736 yards on the offensive side of the ball.
In 2001, he scored over 200 points in track and field for the Mountaineers, and in 2001, Clemmons was named the Virginian Review All-Area Track Athlete of the Year.
In college, Clemmons was a four-year letterman in football at Hampden-Sydney, earning All-ODAC honors at running back in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
In 2004, he received the Richmond Times Dispatch Dudley State Player of the Year for Division II and III.
His 3,771 career yards rushing are a school record, while his 284 points and 46 career touchdowns were a school record at the time.
Clemmons is the second-leading scorer and fifth all-time leading rusher in Old Dominion Athletic Conference history.
Shannon Johnson
Johnson was a four-year letterman in both football and baseball at Alleghany. He also earned a letter for one season of basketball.
In 1996, he received Honorable Mention All-Blue Ridge District honors as a quarterback, and in 1997, he was named to the All-Blue Ridge District and All-Area teams as a quarterback, also earning Honorable Mention on the All-Region III team.
In 1999, he was named to the All-Blue Ridge District Team as an infielder, also earning Honorable Mention on the All-Region III team.
In 1999, he was named the Athlete of the Year by the Virginian Review.
Johnson played four years of football at Emory and Henry and was a three-year starter at quarterback.
He amassed 4,766 total yards, threw 29 touchdown passes and rushed for 15 more TDs. His totals include a 378-yard passing game.
Kenny Higgins
Higgins served as the head football coach at Alleghany from 1985 until 1989, winning Blue Ridge District championships in 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988.
His Blue Ridge District record was 16-3, while he compiled an overall record of 37-18.
He also served as an assistant varsity baseball coach from 1984-1989.
Higgins was the principal at Alleghany High School from 2000 until 2009.
These four newest members of the Alleghany High School Hall of Fame bring the total to 45 inductees.
Previous inductees include Todd Cauthorn, Sam Cook, Bob Deaton, Bryan Hamm, Tom O’Meara, Tracy Wrenn Webster, Dr. Charles Ballou III, Dwayne Brown, Lee Dunn, David Groseclose, Kelly Perkins, Ben Hicks, Curtis Hicks and Phil Douglas.
