FINCASTLE — Botetourt County’s Community Theater, Attic Productions, will present the summer musical, “Oklahoma!” beginning Thursday.

The production will be presented at the D. Geraldine Lawson Theatre for Performing Arts in Fincastle.

“Oklahoma!” was written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II as an adaption of the 1931 play, “Green Grow the Lilacs.”   The original Broadway production of “Oklahoma!” opened March 31, 1943, and  it ran for unprecedented 2,212 performances. A film version of the stage musical was released in 1955.

Dates for the Attic Productions’ presentation are July 24, 25, 26, 31; and Aug. 1, 2, 7, 9. Performance times will be 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays; there will also be a 2:30 p.m. Saturday matinee.

Ticket prices are $15 for adults; $12 for ages 18 and under. Special rates for groups of 10 or more are also available.

Persons interested in attending one of the shows are being advised to make reservations by calling (540) 473-1001. If no one answers the phone, callers are advised to leave their name and telephone number on the answering service.

Attic Productions is partially funded by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment of the Arts.

COVINGTON, Va. (VR) - Kids in colorful Easter attire filled Main Street on Saturday as Covington Parks and Recreation hosted its annual parade and egg hunt.
Wagons and bikes rolled through the route before the crowd gathered at City Park, where eggs were spread across the grounds for the hunt. Children quickly filled baskets as the event shifted into high gear.
The Easter Bunny posed for photos and handed out gifts, drawing steady lines throughout the afternoon.
