William Bear (“Bill”) Walton, Sr. died peacefully on December 1, 2014 at Hospice House of the Piedmont.
He was born on July 13, 1919 in Staunton, Virginia son of the late Grace Miller Walton and Chalmer Charles Walton.
He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific on the troop ship USS Selinur. After service, he relocated with his family to Yuma, Arizona and Cardiff-By-The-Sea, California. Ultimately, Charlottesville became the family’s final home.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Phyllis Bray Lam Walton and by his siblings Joseph Walton, Robert Walton, Chalmer Charles Walton, Jr., and Mary Elizabeth Walton Voris.
He is survived by his children William Bear Walton, Jr., Stephen Ray Walton, and Rebecca Sue Walton-McFalls as well as their spouses Mary Frances Walton, Dorothy Walton, and Arnold McFalls, all of Charlottesville; by his grandchildren William Bear Walton, III, Amanda Christine Walton, both of Charlottesville, and Kimberley Michelle Walton-Peak of Alvarado, Texas and her husband Todd Peak; and by his great-grandchildren Aydan, Nathaniel, Landon, Jessica, Kennedy, and Kylin Peak.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday December 4, 2014 at Monticello Memory Gardens with Chaplin David Flack officiating.
William will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice House of the Piedmont whose staff lovingly took care of him in his final days.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hillandwood.com.
