LOW MOOR, Va. (VR) – Following is a joint statement issued by the Alleghany Highlands Public Schools and the Covington Division of Police. The Alleghany Highlands Public Schools will remain closed on Wednesday, October 28, as a precaution following notification from law enforcement on Monday evening of a potential safety concern involving our schools and facilities.

There is no imminent or ongoing threat. However, multiple law enforcement agencies continue to work together to address the reported safety concern, and investigation remains ongoing and takes time. All agencies, as well as the school division, are committed to ensuring and
maximizing safety in our school community. At this time, no involved agency is able to share additional details regarding the specific nature
of the concern or the ongoing investigation. We understand that this situation has raised questions and caused disruptions for our families and staff, and we are grateful for their patience and understanding.

The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff remain the highest priority of our division and of law enforcement agencies. The division will coordinate with the involved agencies regarding decision-making during the ongoing investigation, and will provide updates regarding the
reopening of our schools as soon as additional information becomes available. We encourage anyone with information about potential school safety concerns to report them immediately to law enforcement or school officials.
