Alleghany built a 22-7 halftime lead, watched Staunton rally to take a fourth-quarter advantage, then answered with a late touchdown to secure a 36-32 victory Friday night.

The Storm opened the scoring, but the Cougars responded quickly as Buddy White broke loose for a 70-yard touchdown run within the first five minutes.

Staunton continued to battle back, with Thomas Hutchenson scoring with 11:10 remaining to cut Alleghany’s lead to 29-24.

The Storm took its first lead of the night with 5:11 left in the fourth quarter, making it 32-29.

Alleghany answered with White finding the end zone again, putting the Cougars ahead 36-32. The defense held from there to preserve the win.

The Cougars finished with 238 rushing yards and 92 passing yards.

Following the game, Alleghany head coach Will Fields said special teams remains an area the Cougars need to clean up. “We had several kicking breakdowns that we must fix,” The Cougars return home on Friday night hosting Waynesboro, kick off set for 7pm.
