William Earl “Billy” Stover , 50, of Hot Springs, Virginia died Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at his residence.

He was born August 20, 1967 in Alleghany County, Virginia, the son of Smokey Joe Stover and the late and Patricia Ann Peery Stover.

Billy was a master carpenter with Coles Mountain Building for 21 years. On the side he enjoyed mowing lawns for numerous families in Bath County.

He was a 1986 Graduate of Bath County High School and was a member of the Chargers Golf Team. He placed second in the State VICA Contest his senior year.

Billy joined the Hot Springs Fire Department in 1986 when he was 18 years old.

During his 32 years in the department, he held the offices of Chief from January 2005-January 2008; Assistant Chief, Captain and Lieutenant. He was the 2000, 2005 & 2014 Recipient of the Fireman of the Year Award. He was a Support Member of Hot Springs Rescue Squad. Billy was always willing and able to lend a hand to those in need. He was a member of the Healing Springs Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoors man. He was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend to all.

He is survived by his wife, Angela “Angel” Kay McElwee Stover whom he married on October 26, 1991; his father, Smokey Joe Stover of Hot Springs; a brother, Brian Stover & wife Annette of Hot Springs; a sister, Cindy Fry & husband Kevin of Hot Springs; his mother-in-law, Brenda McElwee of Hot Springs; a brother-in-law, Robin McElwee of Hot Springs; Nieces & Nephews, Sarah Church & husband Lee and Will Fry all of Hot Springs, Nathan Helpler & wife Emily of Rome, New York, Rebecca Stover and Joseph Stover both of Hot Springs; great niece & great nephews, Erika Church, Hunter Church, Owen Hepler; Numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

He was preceded in death by mother, Patrica Stover & father-in-law, Gene McElwee.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Life Line Ministries with Mike Spurgeon officiating. Interment will be in Union Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Robbie Chestnut, Lonnie Martin, Greg Pritt, Brian Smith, Jess Pritt, Michael Hamilton, Eddie Swearengin, Travis Braxton, Gilbert Williams.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Lee Fry, Craig Harold, Joseph Stover, James Jones and Members of the Hot Springs Fire Department & Hot Springs Rescue Squad.

The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Life Line Ministries.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hot Springs Fire Department, P.O. Box N, Hot Springs, Virginia 24445.
