ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (VR) – The Bath County Chargers broke the 200 mark for the first time this season, shooting a 199 to win Wednesday’s golf match.
Sophomore Atticus Stauffer led the way with a tournament-low 44.
Michael Keyes overcame a slow start with a strong finish, including a 326-yard drive down the middle of the fairway and a par on his final hole.
Zachariah Foster initially believed he shot a 57, but coaches confirmed his score was a 55, helping bring the Chargers’ team total to 199.
Eastern Montgomery’s Gabe Smith recorded a birdie on the fifth hole, dropping a 50-yard shot from the fairway.
Narrows welcomed Adalie Clark, who shot a 64 over her first nine holes of golf. With four golfers now on the roster, Narrows can once again post a team score.
Craig County and Eastern Montgomery both recorded season-best team totals, with Craig County finishing 18 strokes behind Bath County and Eastern Montgomery 12 back.
The district competition continues to tighten as scores improve each week. Bath County has one district match remaining at The Hill in Blacksburg, the site of the Pioneer District Tournament on Sept. 23.
