WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS Wv. (VR) — Alleghany freshman Jagger Rowland got an early test against some of the top golfers in the area during a challenging round at the Greenbrier Course on Monday.
Playing in a field that included the No. 1 players from several schools, Rowland finished with an 86 while playing No. 1 for Alleghany.
The modified Greenbrier Course played to a par of 74 and featured six par-5 holes. Recent rainfall made conditions even more difficult, with wet fairways and thick rough adding to the challenge.
James River’s Landon Bolling claimed medalist honors with a five-under 69. Greenbrier East’s Isaac Hutchinson finished one stroke behind at 70. Both players are set to continue their golf careers at the collegiate level.
Rockbridge County’s No. 1 player, Davis Welsh, shot a 79.
For Rowland, the round provided valuable experience as he competed alongside three No. 1 senior golfers.
