BROOKVILLE, Va. (VR) – Alleghany Highlands native Dustin Russell has been named the new head football coach at Brookville High School. Russell, a 2007 Alleghany High School graduate, has served as an assistant coach with the Bees and now takes over the program.
As a player, Russell was a member of the Alleghany Mountaineers from 2004-07, helping lead the 2007 team to a 6-5 record and the program’s first playoff appearance since 1988. During an interview last fall, Russell said his success in coaching would not be possible without the support of his wife Megan.
“Football wives never get the credit they deserve,” Russell said. “She is my rock — the one who works, provides for the kids, cooks, cleans, and handles everything during the long hours demanded by coaching. Even through all the chaos, she’s always there supporting and cheering me on.”
