FAIRLEA, WV (VR) – On Thursday, May 21, Condemned signs were put up by the Greenbrier Code Official on several doors at the Greenbrier Valley Mall that stated, “This building cannot be used for Human Habitation, Occupancy, or Use.”

Many believed the building would be torn down and replaced, especially with a popular restaurant, Alfredo’s, leaving their location at the mall and moving into the old Pizza Hut building about four or five minutes down the road.

But according to the Mall’s owner, Richard Ducharme, the hope is that the facility can be attended to in a timely manner and reopened when permissible.

Ducharme released the following statement:

“Due to a maintenance issue with the fire suppression system, the Greenbrier Mall has been temporarily closed. The Fire Marshal felt it is necessary to close the mall while the issue is resolved. Management is very sorry about this unfortunate happening and is doing everything we can to get the Mall back open as quickly as possible.

We apologize to the tenants and mall customers and thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this.”

The WVDN/TGI also spoke with an Advance Auto Parts employee which is located at the end of the mall on the north side and that employee said, “we are still open as far as I know.”

Anymore updates that may become available will be posted to our Facebook page.
