FAIRLEA, WV. (VR) – Covington Middle School closed its track season with a win and multiple top-five finishes, led by Journee Tate and Kinley Uzzell.

Tate won the girls 100-meter dash in 13.72 and added a sixth-place finish in the long jump (13-01). She also ran on the second-place 4×100 relay team (58.07) with Gwen Halterman, Mariah Skidmore and Havenn Nanny. Nanny placed ninth in the 100 (14.52), while Halterman was 17th (15.13).

Uzzell cleared 4-06 to finish second in the high jump. Aubrey Byer (4-04) took fourth, Skidmore (4-02) was seventh and Nanny (4-00) finished eighth, giving Covington four top-eight finishers in the event.

Skidmore placed seventh in the 400 (1:11.26) and teamed with Carlea Weikle, Gia Ross and Kierra Wallace for a fourth-place finish in the 4×400 (5:07.76). Weikle added an eighth-place finish in the 400 (1:12.82), while Wallace was 15th (1:17.30).

The 4×800 relay team of Waverly Campbell, Annabelle Williams, Weikle and Ross also placed fourth (12:35.63). The 4×200 team of Danica Simon, Taniya Peterson, Alaiya Archer and Carly Phillips finished eighth (2:11.82).

Halterman took 12th in the 100 hurdles (20.10), while Simon placed 16th (21.00) and added a 10th-place finish in the 200 hurdles (36.49). Williams was 21st in the 200 hurdles (40.10).

In field events, Remmy Anderson placed seventh in the shot put (25-11.25), and Del Linsin was 12th (22-02.00).

Other individual finishes included Mariah Skidmore (seventh, 400), Emma Morgan (20th, 800), Del Linsin (30th, 800), Waverly Campbell (14th, 1600) and Emily Hobbs (16th, 1600).

Covington also placed fifth in the 4×55 shuttle hurdles (51.83) with Halterman, Williams, Simon and Archer, and 10th in the 4×100 B relay (1:04.73).

 

The boys wrapped up its season with a runner-up finish and several top-three relay performances, led by Graham Kenny and Johuauntae Robinson.

Kenny placed second in the 3200-meter run (12:05.53) and added a fourth-place finish in the 1600 (5:40.38). Jordan Bishop set a personal best in the 800 (2:58.39) and placed ninth in the 3200 (14:00.76).

Robinson took third in the 200 (26.65) and fifth in the 100 (12.73). He also finished third in the high jump (5-04) and ran on the fourth-place 4×100 relay team (52.14) with Aidyn Peters, Zach Craft and Ethan Townsend.

The 4×400 relay team of Craft, Ryan Bishop, Konnor Kirby and Om’ere Nickle placed third (4:33.66). Covington added another third-place finish in the 4×55 shuttle hurdles (45.78) with Tye Jarvis, Kenny, Peters and Townsend.

Craft led the 400 group with a seventh-place finish (1:02.40), followed by Kirby in ninth (1:03.34) and Bishop in 12th (1:03.80). Townsend placed 10th in the 200 (28.64) and 12th in the 200 hurdles (35.18), while Jarvis was ninth in the 200 hurdles (34.06).

In field events, Steven Leigh placed third in the shot put (39-01), with Craft adding a 10th-place finish (33-00). Robinson highlighted the high jump with his third-place clearance, while Peters (4-10) and Jarvis (4-08) also finished in the top 10.

Other finishes included Peters (12th, 100), Kendall Lemons (11th, long jump; 19th, 200), and Ryan Bishop (14th, long jump).
