RADFORD, Va. (VR) – Alleghany’s boys tennis team leaned on a strong singles lineup to secure a 6-3 win, improving to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in district play.
The Cougars opened in doubles with Bubby Entsminger and Riley Smith grinding out a 9-7 win in a tight match. Ayven Warren and Colten Jones fell 5-8, while Quinten Harris and Spencer Tallman dropped their match 3-8, giving Alleghany a 1-2 start.
Singles flipped the momentum.
Warren delivered an 8-5 win, followed by a dominant 8-1 performance from Smith. Parker Willis added an 8-2 victory, and Jaxon Brewster handled his match 8-4. Joe Persinger closed it out with another 8-4 win. Entsminger battled but fell 1-8 in the opening singles match.
Alleghany claimed five of six singles matches to seal the team victory.
The Cougars continue to stack wins behind a deep and reliable singles lineup as district play moves forward.
