RIDGEWAY, Va. (VR) – Alleghany broke the game open in the first inning and never looked back, piling up runs early in an 11-3 win over Magna Vista.
The Cougars sent 11 batters to the plate in the top of the first, scoring seven runs on six hits and multiple errors. Maddie Harmon, Brooklyn Taylor and Paelynn Osborne all delivered singles, while Savanna Hicks reached on an error that brought in two runs. Adalee Harris added an RBI groundout, and Lydia Herstine capped the surge with an RBI triple. Sarah Altizer followed with an RBI single to make it 6-0 before Chessie Wolfe added another hit in the inning.
Alleghany extended the lead to 8-0 in the second. Abby Lindsey tripled and later scored on an error, while Kardyn Skidmore added a double in the inning.
In the circle, Herstine set the tone early, striking out three in the first inning and finishing with multiple strikeouts across her outing. Magna Vista managed just one run through the first three innings, scoring on a wild pitch in the third.
The Cougars added another run in the fourth when Altizer scored on an error, pushing the lead to 9-1. In the sixth, Alleghany reached double digits as M. Harmon came around to score on a passed ball.
Alleghany totaled double-digit hits, with Osborne and Skidmore each recording doubles, while Herstine and Lindsey added triples. Wolfe, Altizer, Harmon, and Taylor all contributed hits in a balanced offensive effort.
Magna Vista plated two late runs in the fifth, taking advantage of walks and hit batters, but Herstine shut the door with three strikeouts in the inning to limit the damage.
Alleghany added its final run in the seventh, capitalizing on a passed ball to extend the lead to 11-3, sealing the win.
