Covington Posts Wins from Uzzell, Tate, Leigh Jr

COVINGTON, Va (VR) – Covington Middle School hosted its home meet Thursday, welcoming Eastern Greenbrier, Mountain View, Maury River and North Cross. Eastern Greenbrier swept both the girls and boys team titles.

Kinley Uzzell led the girls with a first-place finish in the high jump (4-04.00) and added a third-place run in the 100 hurdles (20.31) and sixth in the 100 dash (14.72). Journee Tate finished second in the 100 (14.14) and won the 200 (29.41).

The 4×100 relay placed third (1:00.84). Ava Nicely was sixth in the 400 (1:13.53), while Danica Simon took fifth in the 300 hurdles (1:02.94) and won the triple jump (29-00.00). Gia Ross placed sixth in the 800 (3:19.38).

In field events, Taryn Scott (59-04) and Remmy Anderson (50-02) finished second and third in discus. Aubrey Byer was third in high jump (4-00.00). Tate added a third-place finish in long jump (13-09.00).

On the boys side, Johvauntea Robinson placed second in the 100 (13.09) and 200 (26.07), and added a second-place finish in high jump (5-02.00). The 4×100 relay team finished third (53.59).

Aidyn Peters took third in the 300 hurdles (52.86) and fifth in the 200 (27.36). Graham Kenny led the 800 with a third-place finish (2:34.84), followed by Konnor Kirby in fifth (2:45.78).

Steven Leigh Jr. won the shot put (36-09.50) and added fifth in discus (75-00). Zach Craft placed third in discus (77-10) and fourth in shot put (29-00.00).

Covington posted multiple top-10 finishes across running and field events, finishing behind team champion Eastern Greenbrier.
