Virginia Tech Dining Services is a key partner in the university’s effort to reduce food waste. Dining currently sends about 300 tons of food waste and compostable service ware each year to an off-campus composting facility, material that could eventually be processed at the planned facility at Kentland Farm. ROANOKE — The Alleghany swim team finished their regular season on Friday in a meet with Staunton River and William Fleming at the Kirk YMCA.
“Friday’s meet was a great end to the (regular) season,” said AHS?coach Lee Anne Bowling-Angle. “We had lots of PR’s.”
David Donnan won the 100 butterfly for the Alleghany boys and joined Keegan Williams,?Jordan McPeek and Daniel Curtis in a 200 yard freestyle relay victory.
The Mountaineers won every race on the girls side.
Abby Martin and Olivia Bryant both had two individual wins, while Keely Lowman, Grace Hall, Julia Bryant and Macie Miller also posted victories.
The relay team of Martin, Smith and the Bryant sisters also swept both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay.
“Alivia Hoover, an eighth grader, had a nine-second drop in her 100 fly,” said Bowling-Angle. “We are looking forward to watching the eighth graders grow and develop over the next four years.
“We are heading into the next two weeks to work hard in the pool to prepare for the regions,” she added. “We are excited to see how much they drop between now and the 5th.”
The Class 3, Region D meet will be held on Tuesday, February 5 at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
