PEARISBURG — Triston Hensley scored a team-high 22 points here Friday night in Alleghany’s 80-66 Three Rivers District win over Giles.
Tanner Arritt added 13 for the Mountaineers, while Chris Tingler scored 12.
Jacoby Wilson had 23 for the Spartans (0-11 TRD, 3-17 overall), Caleb Elliott added 11 and James Lyles scored 10.
Hensley, Arritt and Tingler combined for 30 first-half points as Alleghany built a 41-28 lead by the halftime break.
The Mountaineers, now 2-8 in the TRD and 6-13 overall, were playing without leading scorer Jayson Easton who was hurt on Wednesday night at Carroll County.
Alleghany is at home Tuesday against Floyd County.
The Mountaineers were a 49-45 junior varsity winner on Friday.
Andrew Middleton had 22 points for the winners, Dylan Gibson and Matt Warren had eight each, Antwaun Broadnax scored five and both Baron Leitch and Alexandre Taylor had three.
Wednesday’s Game
“It was definitely a crazy game,” said AHS coach Nolan Caldwell of Wednesday’s marathon in Carroll County. “It’s something I’ve never been a part of.”
Alleghany came back from five down with less than a minute left to force extra time.
But the Cavaliers outscored the Mounties 17-9 in the fourth overtime to win the contest, 114-106.
Caldwell’s boxscore from the game provided some interesting statistics that are worth a second look.
• The two teams combined for 161 field goal attempts.
Alleghany connected on 40-of-86 tries (46.5 percent), while Carroll County made 41-of-75 attempts (54.7 percent).
• Six different players fouled out — Hensley, Corey Easton, Devin Lane and Tingler from Alleghany and Luke Johnson and Ben Gosnell from Carroll.
Jayson Easton also missed the fourth overtime after dislocating a finger with less than a minute left in the third overtime. Easton had a game-high 31 points, 26 coming in the fourth quarter and first three overtimes.
• Logging the minutes:
Ian Herman, who scored 26 points, played all 48 minutes for the Cavaliers.
Corey Easton played 42 minutes for the Mountaineers, Jayson Easton played 39 and Christian Allen logged 37.
• Stat sheet stuffers:
Corey Easton had 10 assists  and 10 deflections to go with his 17 points.
Tingler was efficient with his shot selection. The Alleghany senior was a perfect 10-for-10 from the floor on the way to 24 points.
For Carroll County, Weston Burcham was 11-for-15 from the field, adding 26 points to 16 rebounds and six assists.
Herman’s 26 points included 6-of-11 from behind the arc. He also added seven assists.
“The kids fought hard,” Caldwell finished. “We would get a lead and they would fight back and then they would get a lead and we would fight back. It was something.”
