Dining currently sends about 300 tons of food waste and compostable service ware each year to an off-campus composting facility, material that could eventually be processed at the planned facility at Kentland Farm. Both the varsity baseball and softball games between Alleghany and Glenvar were suspended by lightning Friday at Mountaineer Field.

Baseball
Glenvar sent 21 hitters to the plate in a 16-run third and led 17-2 before play was halted.
The Mountaineers were retired in order in the bottom of the inning, and the game was suspended in the top of the fourth.
The Highlanders capitalized on five Alleghany errors in the big inning, and only two of the runs were earned.
The big blow of the inning was a two-run homer off the bat of Jeb Secrist. Tyler Smith and Ryan Butler also had two-run singles in the 16-run outburst.
The Mountaineers had enjoyed a 2-1 lead before Glenvar’s big inning.
Andrew Middleton, Dylan Nicely and Colby Skidmore all walked to open the home first. Middleton later scored on a passed ball, while a Tanner Skidmore groundout plated Nicely with the second run.
Alleghany (0-6 TRD, 1-12 overall) hosts James River on Monday.
Softball
Glenvar led 4-0 and had runners on second and third in the fifth inning when the game was delayed and subsequently suspended.
The Highlanders scored a single run in the first, two more in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Glenvar freshman right-hander Sophie McCulley retired the first nine Mountaineer hitters in the order over the first three innings.
Gracie Conner broke up the perfect game with a bunt single to lead off the fourth, before Bailee Leitch drew a walk. A Kerry Ann Byer ground ball to first moved each runner up a bag, but McCulley got a pair of strikeouts to end the threat.
McCulley struck out seven in four innings.
Alleghany’s defense kept them close.
Center fielder Maggie Rooklin threw out a base runner at third in the first inning, Conner started a 4-6-3 doubleplay with a backhand stab up the middle in the second and Anna Hayes gunned down a potential base stealer in the third.
The Mountaineers (1-3 TRD, 5-7 overall) play at James River on Tuesday and host the Knights on Wednesday.
