STAUNTON – The following is a list of maintenance and construction work that may affect traffic in the VDOT Staunton District, which consists of 11 counties in the Shenandoah Valley and Alleghany Highlands. Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. When traveling through a work zone, use extreme caution and be alert for lane closures and traffic-pattern changes.

*NEW* or *UPDATE* indicates a change from last week’s report.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY
 
INTERSTATE 64 
Mile marker 25 to 23, westbound – Single lane closures for bridge maintenance from 8 a.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Thursday. Estimated completion February 27. Mile marker 41 to 27, westbound – Mobile right shoulder closures for tree trimming operations, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. 

PRIMARY ROADS
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for tree and debris removal, drainage work, pothole patching, brush cutting, ditching and shoulder repairs, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
 
SECONDARY ROADS
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for ditch work, shoulder repairs, pothole repairs, pipe replacement and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for shoulder repairs and pipe cleaning, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

SECONDARY ROADS
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting and pipe cleaning, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
 
 
ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY
 
INTERSTATE 64 
Mile marker 43 to 41, westbound – Mobile right shoulder closures for tree trimming operations, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.  
 
INTERSTATE 81 
*NEW* Mile marker 174 to 204, northbound – Right shoulder closures including along Exit 195 and Exit 200 off-ramps for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. 

PRIMARY ROADS
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
 
SECONDARY ROADS
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for grading, pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, pavement patching, shoulder repairs and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
 
 
HIGHLAND COUNTY
 
PRIMARY ROADS
Route 220 (Potomac River Road) – Temporary traffic signal in operation between Route 632 (The Pines Road) and Route 629 (Strait Creek Road) for Strait Creek bridge replacement. Estimated completion August 2027. Various roads – Flagger traffic control for pothole patching, brush cutting and shoulder repairs, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
 
SECONDARY ROADS
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for brush cutting, pipe cleaning, tree removal, and adding stone to unpaved roads, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
 
 
AUGUSTA COUNTY 
 
INTERSTATE 64 
*NEW* Mile marker 87 to 99, eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closures including along Exit 91 and Exit 99 off-ramps for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. 
*UPDATE* Mile marker 89 to 91, eastbound and westbound – Shoulder closures for maintenance to Route 637 overpass, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday.

INTERSTATE 81 
*UPDATE* Mile marker 219 to 227, northbound and southbound – Overnight left lane closures for traffic-shift preparation and barrier wall relocation, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday nights. Single-lane traffic on exit 221 southbound ramp to I-64 eastbound through March 30. Shoulder closures northbound and southbound 24/7 through spring. Traffic restrictions are for I-81 widening project. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour. 
Mile marker 234 to 238, northbound and southbound –Northbound and southbound left shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are for construction of I-81 truck-climbing lanes with estimated completion of late 2027. 

PRIMARY ROADS
Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) – Eastbound and westbound right shoulder closures between Route 636 (Old Goose Creek Road) and Route 1334 (Imperial Drive) for pipe installation, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Friday.   Route 252 (Middlebrook Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 659 (Sugar Loaf Road) and Route 693 (Stingy Hollow Road) for fiber installation, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Feb. 27.
Route 254 (Hermitage Road) – Flagger traffic control at intersections with Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) and Route 792 (Indian Mound Road/Balsley Road) for intersection improvements, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through May 29. 
 
SECONDARY ROADS
Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road, Verona) – Occasional flagger traffic control and westbound turn-lane closures at Route 901 (Mill Place Parkway) for intersection improvements, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays through August 1. Route 834 (Hickory Hill Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 631 (Ladd Road) and Route 640 (Goose Creek Road) for waterline installation, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through April 30. Route 901 (Mill Place Parkway, Verona) – Occasional flagger traffic control near Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road) for intersection and roadway improvements, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays through August 1. Various roads – Flagger traffic control for drainage work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 to 3 p.m. weekdays.

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 
 
INTERSTATE 81  
Mile marker 237 to 238, northbound and southbound – Left shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are for construction of I-81 truck-climbing lanes with estimated completion of late 2027.  *UPDATE* Mile marker 242 to 248, northbound and southbound – Exit 247 off-ramps (except northbound 247A) closed from 7 a.m. Monday through 4 p.m. Friday (Feb. 16-20) for pouring concrete on new Route 33 bridge over railway. Follow posted detours. Single lane closures as needed 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. and shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for Route 33 bridge and interchange project with completion expected in fall 2026. *NEW* Mile marker 245 to 251, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures including along Exit 245, Exit 247 and Exit 251 off-ramps for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. 
*NEW* Mile marker 248 to 243, southbound – Overnight left lane closures for guardrail upgrades, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday and Tuesday nights.

PRIMARY ROADS
*NEW* Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Eastbound and westbound overnight right lane closures between Wynnwood Lane and Route 276/620 (Cross Keys Road/Indian Trail Road) for rock and soil testing, 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights. *UPDATE* Route 33 (East Market Street, Harrisonburg) – Closed from 7 a.m. Monday through 4 p.m. Friday (Feb. 16-20) between Carlton Street and Linda Lane/Burgess Road for pouring concrete on new bridge over railway. Follow posted detour. Single-lane closures as needed between Hawkins Street and University Boulevard. Shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for bridge replacements and interchange improvements with expected completion in September. 
*NEW* Route 42 (Harpine Highway) – Flagger traffic control between Route 1415 (Early Drive) and Broadway town limits for maintenance to bridge over Daphna Creek, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. *NEW* Route 253 (Port Republic Road) – Eastbound right shoulder closures near Route 726 (Stone Spring Road) intersection for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. *NEW* Route 340 (East Side Highway) – Northbound right shoulder closures near Route 649 (Island Ford Road/Berrytown Road) intersection for signal pole installations, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Feb. 20.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY
 
INTERSTATE 81 
Mile marker 268 to 270, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures for bridge maintenance, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through March 27. 
Mile marker 271 to 293, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures including along Exit 273 and Exit 291 off-ramps for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Mile marker 286 to 284, southbound – Overnight single lane closures for maintenance to Route 604 overpass bridge, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights and 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights through April 30. Mile marker 294 to 299, Overnight single lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through night of April 30. Shoulder closures 24/7 through May. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour. Traffic restrictions are related to I-81 southbound widening project.  *NEW* Mile marker 298 to 299, northbound – Overnight right lane closures for environmental cleanup, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Thursday night.

PRIMARY ROADS

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 604 (North Street/Fairview Road) – Road closed to through traffic between Summit Avenue (Woodstock) and Route 676 (Fravel Road) for maintenance to bridge over I-81 through April 30. Follow posted detour.

 
FREDERICK COUNTY
 
INTERSTATE 81  
Mile marker 300 to 302, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane closures southbound, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through night of April 30. Single shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour. Traffic restrictions are related to I-81 southbound widening project.  Mile marker 304 to 325, northbound and southbound – Overnight left lane closures for cable barrier installation, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through March 30.  *NEW* Mile marker 310 to 311, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane closures for inspection of Route 37 overpass, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday night.
Mile marker 315 to 312, southbound – Right shoulder closures including along Exit 313B and Exit 315 off-ramps for tree removal operations, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday. 

PRIMARY ROADS
*NEW* Route 37 – Brief closures near Route 651 (Shady Elm Road) overpass for fiber installation, 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 22). 

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 621 (Jones Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 622 (Cedar Creek Grade) and Route 1109 (Stonebrook Road) for utility work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Estimated completion March 2. Route 622 (Cedar Creek Grade) – Flagger traffic control between Winchester city limits and Route 621 (Jones Road/Merrimans Lane) for utility work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Estimated completion March 2.
*UPDATE* Various Roads – Flagger traffic control on parts of Route 627 (Chapel Road), Route 671 (Green Spring Road), Route 738 (Ogden Lane), Route 758 (Belle View Lane), and Route 759 (Buffalo Marsh Road) for utility work, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday. 

 
CLARKE COUNTY                                           
 
PRIMARY ROADS
*NEW* Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway) – Eastbound right lane closures between Route 643 (Retreat Road) and Route 604 (Ebenezer Road) for utility work, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 16 – March 16.

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 632 (Crums Church Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway) and Route 656 (Longmarsh Road) for utility work, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through March 6.  *NEW* Route 679 (Pine Grove Road) – Single lane closures between Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway) and Route 604 (Good Shepherd Road) for utility work, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 16 – March 16.

WARREN COUNTY
 
INTERSTATE 66  
Mile marker 2 to 0, westbound – Shoulder closures for road work related to I-81 southbound widening, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through May 1.
*NEW* Mile marker 11 to 12, eastbound – Right shoulder closures for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
 
INTERSTATE 81  
Mile marker 299 to 300, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane closures northbound, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through night of April 30. Single shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour. Traffic restrictions are related to I-81 southbound widening project. 

PRIMARY ROADS
*NEW* Route 522/340 (Winchester Road) – Southbound shoulder closures between Route 655 (Crooked Run Boulevard) and I-66 interchange ramp for construction of turn lane extension, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
