Dining currently sends about 300 tons of food waste and compostable service ware each year to an off-campus composting facility, material that could eventually be processed at the planned facility at Kentland Farm. Alleghany landed their first Three Rivers District girls tennis win of the season at Clifton Middle School Thursday.
The Mountaineers won four singles matches and swept the doubles on the way to a 7-2 victory over Glenvar, snapping a four-match losing streak.
Tori Meeks, Kaylie Hampton, Meghan Cash and Vanna Hoke posted singles victories for the hosts, who improved to 4-5 overall, 1-3 in the TRD.
The doubles teams of Meeks and Nicole Gray, Hampton and Aysia Massie and Cash and Hoke were all winners.
“It was good to finally get another win tonight in spite of the rain,” said AHS coach Nicole Fogus. “I think all of our girls played hard, but I was really impressed with Kaylie and Aysia’s effort during the their doubles match.
“They communicated with each other and hit some great shots,” she added. “It’s nice to see things we’ve been working on in practice finally click, and they definitely did tonight.”
The Highlanders dropped to 3-8 overall and 0-5 in the TRD with the loss.
Alleghany’s scheduled Fri-day match at Floyd County was postponed until May 15.
The Mountaineers next hit the courts on Tuesday with a make-up match at Glenvar.
