Allen Bruce Clarkson
Mr. Allen Bruce Clarkson, 88, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the Sheila S. Strauss Hospice House in Roanoke, Virginia after a short illness. He was born July 18, 1937, in Clifton Forge, Virginia and over his life, he was a cherished husband and a loving father, grandfather and great
grandfather.
Bruce was predeceased by his wife, Jean Nicely Clarkson; his sisters, Irene Craft and Vera Crawford; and his brothers, Raymond, Lloyd and Elden Clarkson.
He is survived by his sons, Bruce Stephen Clarkson (Carolyn) of Greensboro, North Carolina and Carl Franklin Clarkson (Nancy) of Fincastle, Virginia; his step-sons, Randy Nicely and Kevin Nicely of Charleston, South Carolina, David Nicely (Jamie) of Orlando, Florida and several nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by grandchildren, Bruce (Tony) Clarkson, Erica Clarkson Loudermilk, Kara Vellines, Megan Fridley, Ian Nicely, Josh Nicely, Megan Nicely, Ashley Nicely, Reagan Nicely, Sophia Nicely and Colleen Huck; and by great grandchildren, Nathaniel Clarkson, Sarah Loudermilk, Adam
Loudermilk, Gavin Vellines, Ava Vellines, Carter Altice, Weston Altice, Rian Fridley and Joey-Kate Fridley.
Bruce was a retiree of WestRock and enjoyed many years in the Senior Golf League, where he proudly scored a hole-in-law one at the Cliftondale Golf Course.
He also treasured the lifelong friendship and support of two dear friends, Paul Dressler and William “Cricket” Clark, whose companionship meant so much to him throughout the years.
In keeping with his wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no graveside service. A friends and family visitation will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Loving Funeral Home.
