COVINGTON, Va. (VR) - Kids in colorful Easter attire filled Main Street on Saturday as Covington Parks and Recreation hosted its annual parade and egg hunt.
Wagons and bikes rolled through the route before the crowd gathered at City Park, where eggs were spread across the grounds for the hunt. Children quickly filled baskets as the event shifted into high gear.
The Easter Bunny posed for photos and handed out gifts, drawing steady lines throughout the afternoon.

Kathy Sue Porterfield Bailey

Kathy Sue Porterfield Bailey, 70, of Frankford went to her heavenly home on Thursday, January 22, 2026. She is once again with her beloved husband, Elwin.

Born November 2, 1955 in Alleghany County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Haskell and Louella Boone Porterfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwin in 2021 and a brother, Wayne Porterfield.

Kathy was an employee of the Greenbrier Hotel for 49 years and a member of the Ronceverte Christian Church.

She is survived by a sister, Patty Byer and husband Roger, a brother, Ronnie Porterfield and wife Jeannie all of Covington, Va., sister-in-law, Kathy Sampson and husband, Vance of Lewisburg and brother-in-law, David Bailey and wife, Dawn of Statesville, NC; a niece, Melissa Byer and fiancé, Jason Craft, nephew, Timmy Byer and wife Summer, niece, Leslie Podsiadlik and husband, Kenny; great nieces, Mallory Podsiadlik and (Gus Graham) and Madelyn Podsialik, niece, Nikki Bailey and son, Caden Benfield, niece, Lynda Allen, nephew, David Bailey, II and a great niece, Rhiannon Cook and husband, Evan.

A visitation will be Friday, January 30, 2026 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg.

Funeral will be 2:00 pm Saturday, January 31, 2026 at the funeral home in Lewisburg, with Pastor Cliff Stone officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Timmy Byers, Shawn Withrow, Joey Deem, Conley Deem, Dennis Bittinger, and Adam Bittinger.

In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to Greenbrier County Humane Society or Ronceverte Christian Church.
