COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – The Jackson River Sports Complex officially kicked off the holiday season on Nov. 23, highlighted by the debut of a new Holiday Market organized by Covington Parks and Recreation. The 2025 addition brought in a variety of gifts and food vendors, and the smell of chestnuts roasting over an open fire carried through the crowd as the Alleghany High School choir filled the area with Christmas carols.

Lisa Worley of Covington Parks and Recreation said the turnout exceeded expectations, calling the market more successful than she would have ever imagined.

Live music ran throughout the afternoon with performances by Pete Moore, STARS, the AHS choir, Madison Barnette, David Crosier and, to close out the evening, Edgemont Preschool. After the preschool’s performance, the students helped lead the countdown to the Twinkling Trail lighting.

The trail will be lit nightly from 5–10 p.m., free of charge. A donation box is available at the start of the trail, along with information on which station to tune your radio to as you drive through.
