CLIFTON FORGE, Va. (VR) – The Woodlands Health and Rehab nursing home conducted a very special “thank you” ceremony to honor their veterans. The program opened with the National Anthem and the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

Call to Action: reading of veteran’s poem entitled “Bury Me with Soldiers” by Rev. Charles R. Fink who was a former Sgt. In the 199th Light Infantry Brigade in Vietnam March 1969 to March 1970. Excerpt from the poem:

They cursed and killed and wept—

God knows they’re easy to deride—

But bury me with men like these;

They faced the guns and died.

VFW Post 1033 Auxiliary presented each veteran with a special “thank you” certificate and auxiliary thank you coins. We were proud to be a part of this special program honoring these men and women who so valiantly served their country.

As part of the day’s program, life membership pins and name badges were presented to two residents – Carol Paxton and 95-year-old Navy veteran, Mary Worley. Welcome to the auxiliary.

“True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost.” Arthur Ashe
