CHS Boys Sprint To Track Title

Anchored by speedsters T.K Tomlinson and De’Andre Heighter, the Covington Cougars raced to a Pioneer District track title Wednesday at Burton Field.
The Cougars with 164 points easily outdistanced runner-up Eastern Montgomery. Parry McCluer finished third.
On the girls side, Eastern Montgomery with 182 points captured the title, while Narrows finished second. The Cougars finished fifth with 14 points.
Tomlinson raced to first place finishes in the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. He also leaped to a win in the long jump.
Heighter was victorious in  the 110 meter hurdles, the 300 meter hurdles and the long jump.
The Cougars also captured the 4 x 100 meter relays.
Mitchell Tallman and Shaun Smith Jr. rounded out the Cougar winners with respective victories in the pole vault and shot put.
“We faced a lot of adversity this season, and to see my kids perform and excel, that made me feel really good,” said Covington coach Austin Gibson.
“To get a solid win like that makes things a lot easier.”
The Cougars now advance to Tuesday’s regional meet at Christiansburg High School.
