LEXINGTON, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany Cougars closed the regular season on a strong note Friday night, shutting out Rockbridge 39–0 to head into the playoffs with momentum.
Alleghany set the tone from the opening drive, with quarterback Des Jordan punching into the end zone for the game’s first touchdown. Rockbridge’s Aiden Meyers blocked the extra point, keeping the score at 6–0.
Late in the first quarter, Jordan connected with Austin Greene for another score, extending the Cougars’ lead to 13–0. Just over a minute into the second quarter, the Jordan–Greene duo struck again. Mason Hale added the extra point to make it 20–0.
Before halftime, running back Brady May powered his way across the goal line, giving Alleghany a commanding 26–0 advantage at the break.
In the third quarter, May found himself wide open and broke loose for a 55-yard touchdown run, stretching the lead even further. Jordan capped off the scoring with another rushing touchdown as the Cougars’ defense continued to dominate, keeping the Wildcats off the board for the full four quarters.
Alleghany’s defense controlled the pace throughout the night, applying steady pressure and limiting Rockbridge’s offense to minimal yardage.
With the win, the Cougars finish the regular season with confidence and now prepare for the opening round of the district playoffs. Alleghany will travel to Turner Ashby on Friday, Nov. 14, to face the Knights.
