FORT DEFIANCE, Va. (VR) –  The Alleghany JV volleyball team fought through momentum swings on Saturday afternoon, defeating Wilson Memorial in three sets — 25–17, 12–25, 15–6 — to punch their ticket to the district title match.

The Cougars came out strong in the opening set, with Kimora Moye firing a kill to set the tone early. Both teams traded points through the first half, as Wilson’s Emorie Hostetler kept the Hornets steady with strong leadership and consistent play. The momentum shifted when Eva Arritt delivered a service ace that fueled a six-point Alleghany run. Kelsie Forbes then stepped up at the line, landing back-to-back aces to seal the set, 25–17.

The Hornets controlled the pace behind a dominant serving stretch in the second set, from Ella Pustai, who tallied four aces. Aida Aleshire, Hostetler, and Sara Lane’ each added one of their own as the Cougars struggled to gain rhythm. Wilson rode that momentum to even the match with a 25–12 win.

Alleghany wasted no time regaining control in the third. Forbes once again took charge, opening the set with three straight aces to put the Cougars ahead 10–1 and force an early Wilson timeout. From there, Alleghany kept the pressure on at the net, with strong plays and steady defense across the back row. The match came to a close with a decisive kill from Ainsley Rexrode, sealing the 15–6 victory.

With the win, the Lady Cougars advance to face Fort Defiance on Tuesday for the district championship.
