COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – It was a festive Halloween night at Casey Field, and the Cougars gave their home crowd plenty to cheer about. On Senior Night, Alleghany recognized its fall sports athletes along with the band and cheerleaders, then capped the celebration with a convincing 35-21 Shenandoah District victory over Fort Defiance.

Senior quarterback Des Jordan accounted for four touchdowns — two rushing and two passing — as the Cougars built a 35-0 lead through three quarters and improved to 8-1 overall and 6-1 in district play. Jordan set the tone early with a pair of first-quarter touchdown runs, staking Alleghany to quick control. In the second period, he connected with Austin Greene for a 16-yard score, and Carter Nicely added an 11-yard touchdown run to make it 28-0 at halftime.

Greene found the end zone again midway through the third quarter, hauling in a pass to push the margin to 35-0 with 5:12 left in the period. Fort Defiance mounted a late push, scoring three times in the final nine minutes. James Pruiksma powered in from 6 yards out, Carter Berry hit Elijah Pultz for a 30-yard touchdown, and Blake Marshall added a 4-yard score in the closing seconds. Marshall carried 22 times for 103 yards to pace the Indians (4-5, 3-4 Shenandoah), while Pruiksma added 81 yards on 16 carries.

Berry completed 6-of-17 passes for 75 yards but was intercepted three times. Jordan went 10-of-15 for 114 yards through the air and led the Cougars’ rushing attack with 48 yards on five carries. Greene finished with five receptions for 94 yards and two touchdowns. Alleghany wraps up its regular season on the road next Friday at Rockbridge County
